While a completion date has not been set, Maitland City Council senior project architect Aaron Cook said construction is on target to finish ahead of the contract completion date in August 2017.
“The way things are progressing we are on target for early completion,” he said.
Mr Cook said the $8.6 million project was out of the wet weather danger zone, meaning rain should not impact the timeline of works from here.
“The project’s really at a point where unless we had a long run of bad weather it wouldn’t affect it,” he said.
The changeroom level of the building is complete while the installation of the concrete seating beams began last week.
The concrete walls on the upper level are almost complete and the project is also on budget at this stage.
“It’s going really well,” Mr Cook said.
“We’ve had no major problems on the job so far.”
The next milestone for works is construction and implementation of the grand stand roof.
Part of the field also had to be damaged in the process, which Mr Cook said will be refurbished in the lead-up to Christmas.
Along with the steady progress of the project, Mr Cook is also pleased that the grandstand is now visible from High Street, for the first time ever.
“It’s always been tucked away behind a steel fence,” he said.
“I’m happy that it’s something that stands out now.”
Construction of the 1,100 seat grandstand began in June this year.
Improvements on the previous 80-year-old structure include improved access and an enhanced view of the playing field.
The facility will feature new change rooms, public amenities and canteen designed to cater for a range of sporting and community events.
Funds for the upgrade were provided by the Hunter Infrastructure and Investment Fund ($5.6 million) and Maitland City Council ($3 million).
