CARAVAN PARK RED TAPE
I believe the reason why Maitland does not have a caravan park is because of Maitland council, Mayor Peter Blackmore and Councillor Steve Procter.

In my opinion, none of them were prepared to go into bat for the developer who, for many many months, tried to gain approval for a park at Mount Dee.
Several months ago Cr Procter stated in this newspaper that the developer lost interest and that’s why a caravan park never went ahead.
I understand that this is wrong and that it was because of the ridiculous red tape and demands of the aforesaid that eventually forced him to give up.
I also challenge the mayor’s assertion that you can obtain a caravan site for $26 a night, if that's what he was indicating.
My wife and I have travelled up and down the East Coast for several years and don't recall being able to get a site for $26.
During the Maitland floods I believe it was quite some time before any water encroached on the property and was thus not a major problem.
As for a free stay right next to a 24/7 rail corridor, what a joke Cr Procter! The RVers will only stay once and tell others not to bother.

RED HAT LADIES’ CHAPTERS
Further to the article in Friday’s Maitland Mercury featuring the crowning of another Red Hat Society Queen, I’d like to clarify that our local chapter, Red Hatters Maitland, is still up and running as usual. Those interested may contact me on 4934 1125.

AUSTRALIA, TIME TO UNITE
Change is inevitable, but it’s how you navigate it that matters. In this ever-changing world we urge everyone who cares about our society to remember we all deserve respect and dignity.
Our country’s success is built on this very idea of a ‘fair go’ for all, a notion underpinned by the very basic principle of humanity.
Humanity is universal in nature and urges that all people – no matter their gender, race or religion – to be treated with respect, and given the chance to live life in dignity.
In this world we have choices to make: a fair go for all, or just for some; unity or separation. We all have the chance to nurture and promote the kindness, compassion and goodness that are essential for human dignity.

CBD PARKING DEMAND
Unless I have misunderstood the meaning of David Evans’ statement, which appeared in the Maitland Mercury on Wednesday, November 9, the reason we don't have enough parking for shoppers in the CBD is because most of the parking spots are taken by the workers from early in the morning.
As far as I know, a worker is entitled to be provided with a parking spot. I'm sure that Mr Evans, the councillors and council staff have car parks. Why should they have more rights than any other workers?
What happened to the can-do council they have always prided themselves on being? People have been complaining about a lack of parking in Maitland for as long as I can remember.
Perhaps the business owners and the councillors should get together and find a solution to the problem? We can't expect workers that live outside the CBD to walk to work and back.
If council is serious about bringing more business to the centre, they must provide shoppers and workers with parking.
