Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association (HTBA) in conjunction with Hunter TAFE and Godolphin has launched a series of new initiatives aimed at equipping young people with education and experience leading to rewarding careers in the Hunter’s premier thoroughbred breeding industry.

School principals, career advisers along with Hunter TAFE and Youth Support organisations, race clubs, council representatives, HTBA Committee members and Godolphin Flying Start students attended the launch this week of the new EquiStart Work Ready Course and the HTBA careers videos and booklet at Godolphin’s historic Kelvinside stud farm near Aberdeen.
Building on the HTBA’s strong collaboration with TAFE, Youth Support Organisations, Schools and the success of the EquiStart School Based Traineeship, the new EquiStart Work Ready Course is now available to both school students and all young people interested in pursuing a career in the thoroughbred breeding industry.
The introductory course will provide young people with the foundation skills, an insight to the industry and highlight the diverse career pathways the horse industry can offer.
The HTBA’s “Rewarding Careers” booklet and accompanying series of videos showcases over 40 occupations in the thoroughbred breeding industry ranging from horse husbandry and equine specialists to agriculture, farming, business and administration.
“Our assets are our people. They are the backbone of our industry and critical to our success. That is why we and our members are proud to partner again with Hunter TAFE and invest in training and development to attract and nurture employees and future industry leaders,” Dr Cameron Collins, HTBA President said.
“This is an exciting and comprehensive suite of information and training opportunities for young people interested in a future in the horse industry. The thoroughbred breeding industry is diverse and each stud farm provides for the development of a range of skills, work and life experiences and opportunities.” Mr Mike Thew, Chairman of the HTBA’s Education and Training Sub-Committee said.
The course will commence in early 2017 and HTBA is taking registrations now for those interested in the EquiStart Work Ready Course and exploring careers in the Hunter’s thoroughbred breeding industry.
