An inmate at Cessnock jail allegedly stored mobile phones inside a food packet according to police.
Corrections officers searched the inmate’s cell about 9.25am Monday, where two mobile phones with batteries and sim cards were allegedly found.
The 32-year-old male prisoner, formerly of Granville, has been charged with possessing a mobile phone in prison.
He is currently serving a four-year minimum sentence for property related offences committed in 2013, with a release date scheduled for 2018.
He will appear before Cessnock Local Court in relation to the new charge on February 22.
