Junior rugby union teams from across the Hunter including Singleton, Nelson Bay, Pokolbin, Merewether, Medowie and Easts are taking part in the final trial series before the Hunter Junior Rugby Union season starts the following weekend.
There will be almost 40 teams across from under 8s through to under 16s playing across the Marcellin Park complex in one of the biggest junior rugby union tournaments on the calendar.
The Maitland Blacks juniors are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year and will be fielding multiple teams in under-8, under-9, under-10, under-11, under-12 and under-14 trials as they continue to reap the rewards of their successful junior programs.
Games kick off on Saturday from 8.30am with finals the following day.
It’s a busy weekend for junior sport with the Maitland and District Junior Rugby League, Maitland Netball Association and AFL Juniors competitions all kicking off, joining junior soccer which started in March.
