More than 60 people will gather at Maitland City Bowls Sport and Recreation Club for the lunch time event.
A cheque will be presented to Professor Hubert Hondermarck who is a member of the Hunter Medical Research Cancer Research Program.
The Rutherford-based organisation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research since it’s inception in 1982.
Over the past four years money raised for various cancer causes has totaled more than half a million dollars.
The committee came together to establish an oncology unit in the Hunter Valley and has worked tirelessly since then to help those affected by cancer.
Today the community knows the committee through its bric-a-brac shop at Rutherford and free linen service for palliative care patients – operated by about 15 volunteers, with an average age of 70.
Maitland Cancer Appeal has also helped fund studies into a range of projects including brain, lung and blood cancers.
