The probationary constables were allocated to the Central Hunter command after they attested alongside 175 other students on April 28.
Mitchell Ward and Cody Preston commenced 12 months probation this week in which time they will learn the in’s and out’s of the force.
Central Hunter educational development officer Sergeant Kevin Armstrong said the men will watch existing police units, which are made up of two officers, to listen and learn.
Once they are deemed competent they will join a unit to provide a much-needed boost to the command’s response.
Sergeant Armstrong said the command “won’t shield them from anything”.
“They’ll go out on any type of job, anything from a letterbox being damaged to a murder,” he said.
The trainees are the first new police officers deployed to the command in almost two years.
