Council’s Senior Project Architect Aaron Cook said the complex is nearing completion with finishing touches underway.
Work on pool concourse tiling, landscaping and concrete paths outside the pool are winding up. Meanwhile the pool filtration and water heating equipment and air conditioning all being fine turned.
Mr Cook said once those tasks are complete an official opening date will be announced.
He said the eight lane, 25-metre pool project has gone according to plan with only one month of wet weather delays.
The pool will have a depth of 1.2 metres at the shallow end and 1.5 metres in the deep end.
It will open all year round.
“One of the things we tried to achieve was to take advantage of the location in the middle of Maitland Park and capture the view which has been achieved through large double glazed windows,” Mr Cook said.
He said the double glazed glass will insulate the pool hall and help retain heat.
“The pool hall is also air conditioned which will help keep water warm, providing a more efficient way of heating. We also have gas boilers to heat the water as well,” Mr Cook said.
One of the stand out features of the development is its chlorination system which takes in salts from the pool water to create chlorine, minimising the amount of chemicals needed on site.
