She says reducing stress is just one of the benefits of unleashing creativity on paper – and if drawing a stick figure is you’re only accomplishment she says you can learn how to develop techniques. 

“People get distracted and preoccupied with digital things,” Ms Landers said. 

“It’s a very natural thing for humans to express their ideas, it’s very empowering for them to put marks on paper.

“Research shows that it doesn’t matter what kind of art or craft you make, the art of doing it reduces people’s stress levels … It’s a way for people to reduce stress and it will have a huge positive impact on them.”

Ms Landers, with her bucket loads of artistic techniques, has created Lorn Arts and Craft in the iconic Lorn cottage.

She hopes to mentor children and adults on their artistic journey and help them achieve their creative goals. 

She said 15 years teaching in Australia, and another 15 teaching in the United States, Malaysia and China, had given her a global insight into art. 

“It’s been a lifelong thing to be involved in art and to teach it,” she said. “It’s the focus of my life – people might collect china or antiques, I collect art techniques.

“Learning a skill makes a person so much happier than having a thing. It might be fun to get something new but the novelty wears off.

“If you have learnt a skill and you apply it you’ve got it for life and you can build on it. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. 

“You can take those techniques with you, it doesn’t matter where you are.

“I think that it’s so important to generate generations of people who are skilled and learning new skills.”

Lorn Arts and Craft officially opened on Friday.

Ms Landers will soon introduce afternoon and evening programs on Friday and Saturday nights.

She will eventually have four studios to cater for small and large groups, and will be available for art parties for businesses, hens parties, birthday celebrations and other milestones.
