The official farewell to 2017 kicks off at 5pm on December 31 and there will be a range of entertainment in the lead up to a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm.
Along with live music the event will feature free family friendly activities including amusement rides, a kids disco, face painting, cardboard slides and a jumping castle.
The Girl Guides will also be running mask making activities and kids will be able to create their own masterpiece, wear it all night and take it home with them once everything wraps up.
Council voted earlier this year to formally include Lorn in the event footprint and provide additional annual funding of $10,000 specifically for the Lorn side. Activities on the Lorn side include family yard games, food stalls and a mega slide.
PRD Nationwide Hunter Valley is sponsoring the event for a third consecutive year, and principal Rhonda Nyquist said it was fantastic to be involved again.
“To be part of something that brings this kind of joy to so many people is really important to us,” she said.
Maitland Council’s operations and events officer Kate Henry encouraged locals to head along and celebrate the big night.
Visitors are allowed to take small amounts of alcohol into the event. Regular alcohol restrictions will be lifted between 3pm and 9.30pm.
New Year’s Eve in Maitland is a family friendly event and council is encouraging people to drink responsibly. Antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.
