The 13-year-old Novocastrian, who gained worldwide attention for her TV appearances on The Ellen Show and Today Show, won wildcards into the under-16 and pro junior (under-18) girls events. She also made the four-woman final for the wildcard into the 6000-point qualifying series women’s pro. Alysse Cooper, from Queenscliff, claimed the open women's spot.
Norris, the daughter of Olympic swimming medallist Justin Norris, has had tests to try to pinpoint the reason for her lack of growth over the past three years. In YouTube updates, Norris detailed a condition known as Chiari malformation and said she faced more scans to determine if she needs surgery.
In the men’s pro trial, Norah Head’s Troy Skillin scored a late eight-pointer to hold off Corlette’s Mike Clayton-Brown. Joel Vaughan (pro junior) and Josh Stretton (under-16s) also won.
