And with the NSW government offering every school-enrolled child a $100 voucher towards sporting pursuits under it’s Active Kids program, G21 is worth consideration.
The brainchild of Samantha Nicholls, a former competitive gymnast, Gymnastics 21 stands for the age and idea Samantha had to start her own business.
“I was 21 at the time and I just thought Gymnastics 21 – G21 – sounded pretty cool,” Samantha said
G21 is a mobile gym offering after-school classes for children aged 5 to 18 at three locations – Rutherford, Thornton and Salt Ash, and a Kindergym program at Thornton for younger kids.
“It’s a progressive skills-based pathway where kids – boys and girls – of similar ability are grouped together regardless of age,” Samantha explained.
“They learn all sorts of things – beam, bar, trampoline, partner balances, strength and flexibility, motor skills etc,” Sam said. “They are assessed each term and can work through their grades. They get to meet new friends in a fun environment with activities in place for team building so it’s really good for their social development.
“Our coaches teach resilience, and the importance of never giving up, and of always trying to do your best which really helps the kids develop emotionally.
“It’s a very positive environment with no bullying.”
The Kindergym program kicks off in March at Thornton and is sure to be popular.
“It will be for children 1.5 years of age to four offering similar benefits for young children utilising a guided discovery program involving parent and child,” Samantha said. “Kindergym is a great way to get kids ready for school.”
G21 after-school classes run hourly from 3.30pm to 7.30pm depending on what day and classes you do.
Monday and Friday, G21 is at Rutherford – on Monday its at the Maitland Indoor Sports Centre, and Friday across the road at Galaxy Talent Academy. Tuesday and Thursday G21 is at Thornton in the Pat Hughes Hall. Wednesday G21 is at Salt Ash Community Hall.
“We offer a 10 per cent discount for the third child of any family, and of course there’s the Active Kids voucher of $100 for every child from the NSW Governement,” Samantha said.
