School-aged children up to 18 years of age can use the NSW governments Active Kids $100 voucher to offset costs, making it an affordable and low stress way of getting fit and active.
“We opened four years ago,” said Ms Brigid, who has been dancing since she was three.
“I saw market for people who were keen to dance but didn’t want to do competitions or eisteddfods, but rather dance literally for fun.”
Just 4 Fun Dance offers after school classes in jazz, tap, Irish dancing, belly dancing and acro-class (a mix of cheerleading and jazz) in age-graded classes from 18 months up to adult.
“We do a lot of adult classes, actually,” Ms Brigid said. “There are a lot of active working mums, older ladies, former dance students who’ve had families, who are looking to stay in touch with dance, or try something new.
“We cater to community demand. Similarly we do a lot of classes for students with autism.”
Ms Brigid is a qualified nurse and has a passion for mixing healthcare with dance.
“I just wanted to give Maitland another option for working out, and have that creative crossover in terms of exercise,” she said.
Just 4 Fun Dance and Fitness operates at St Christopher’s Anglican Hall in Rutherford on the corner of Verge and Gillies Streets.
“Classes usually start from 4pm unitl 8.30pm depending on what people want,” Ms Brigid said. “We’re always open to more classes if people want them and we can organise private classes too.”
The Active Kids $100 voucher started on January 31 this year and is designed to help NSW families meet the costs of getting their children into sport and fitness activities.
Through the program, parents, carers and guardians across NSW will be able to claim a $100 voucher to put towards the registration and participation costs of sport and active recreation activities for their kids.
With household budgets stretched, the NSW government wants to ensure every child has access to sports and active participation for their health and wellbeing.
“The voucher is a real assistance and incentive,” Ms Brigid said.
“Just 4 Fun Dance is pay by class, no lock-in contracts, just a $20 rego. Classes usually cost $10 a lesson, and go down by $2 if you take a second class.
“The Active Kids voucher can basically cover an entire term of classes, so it takes the pressure off.”
