But to produce a triple century partnership – and alongside a sibling – is another matter entirely.
The Moxey brothers, Jarrod and Josh, were able to do just that in the Maitland and District Cricket Association A-grade competition on Saturday, combining for a remarkable 310-run partnership.
The Port Stephens pair broke all sorts of individual, club, competition and even district records during the fourth round dig, with Jarrod finishing unbeaten on 255 while Josh made 153.
This helped the three-time defending premiers reach 5-476 from their 40 overs, leaving the previously undefeated Bradford Hotel with little chance of reeling in the runs at Norm Chapman Oval.
“The biggest thing was scoring a triple century partnership with my brother,” Jarrod said.
“I could have done that with anyone but to do it with him was pretty special.”
It’s not the first time the Moxey boys have been involved in a big stand, compiling a 196-run partnership last season. But this one took things to another level.
Coming together at 3-96 midway through the first session on Saturday, the duo moved the total along to 166 at drinks. From here they both exploded, scoring 240 runs in the next 16.1 overs.
When Josh was finally dismissed with the score at 406 there were 3.5 overs remaining.
Jarrod then took the reins and after bringing up his own double century played a major hand in scoring the Pythons’ final 70 runs in 23 deliveries. Port Stephens eventually won the match by 301 runs.
This performance has not gone unnoticed by Maitland representative selectors with both Jarrod and Josh selected to take on Newcastle first grade competition leaders Hamilton-Wickham in Sunday’s SCG Country Cup encounter at Lorn Park.
“As long as we go in with the right attitude you never know what might happen,” Jarrod said.
