Every one of the 930 kids enrolled at the rapidly growing school has painted a piece of art to be displayed and sold over the weekend, with the aim of raising funds to aid the school’s impending expansion.
While the Department of Education will fund the school’s multimillion dollar refurbishment, which includes 19 new classrooms, the school’s P and C have been left to fundraise for fit-out items such as air conditioning.
The Maitland Society of Artists will also exhibit in conjunction with the students, with funds from their art sales going towards the school.
Principal Andrew Brown said he was “very pleased” to have the Maitland artists on board.
“They bring lots of resources and great passion for the art,” he said.
“It’s good for Rutherford.”
The three day gallery will be launched on Friday night.
