A report presented at council last week presented details about the issue, including that the cattle were from multiple properties, with the recommendation that the cost of establishing fencing be determined.

It also recommended that council approach the various property owners to attempt to reach an agreement on council organising fencing and then recovering the cost.

However Cr Mitch Griffin, who initially brought the matter to council on February 13, moved a new motion: that council takes urgent action to resolve the drainage issues to Francis Greenway Creek in an effort to allow farmers to undertake urgent fence repairs which will enable them to keep their livestock from entering residential areas.

This was deemed inappropriate by general manager David Evans though, with the subsequent amendment made that council officers instead prepare a report for the next council meeting including previous investigations on the Thornton/Woodberry Wetland. The findings will be presented on March 13.
