The 14-year-old is alleged to have pulled the prohibited weapon out in class on Monday morning.
A teacher confiscated the item and the school contacted police.
Police spoke to the student and parents before seizing the knuckledusters.
Maitland police officer in charge Chief Inspector Glenn Blain said when police asked the student where they got the knuckledusters, the student claimed to have bought them online.
In response to the incident, Inspector Blain has warned parents to monitor what their children buy online.
