The pilot station, the green tank and under Stockton Bridge have been the best spots, with live baits getting the best results, but finding them has been hard.
The reef in front of Stockton surf club is a good spot to find the baits, and a bit of burley, like old bread and a few pilchards will bring them up.
There has also been good catches of bream and flathead in the harbour and school jewfish and flathead are up the river to Hexham.
Stockton Breakwall is producing jewfish, flathead, bream and tailor, and school jewfish are being caught on Stockton Beach, mainly in the evenings on the run up tide.
Beach worms and strips of tailor are good baits, and whiting are taking worms and pippies. A few tailor and flathead are also along the beach.
Up at Port Stephens, the Spit at Fingal Bay is producing some nice whiting, and also along the beach.
Outside the Bay, there has been some nice catches of teraglin on the V Reef, the 21 Reef and further north up at the Gibber Reef.
There is still some yellowtail kingfish at Edith Breakers and the Gibber Reef. Snapper are around Broughton Island and Mungo Reef area.
Inside the bay, some nice flathead to 3kg are being caught in Corlette Groins, and also along Jimmy’s Beach and around Corrie Island.
Plenty of whiting are being caught around the bay on beach worms, and school jewfish are up at Karuah under the road bridges. Try herring or fresh squid for bait.
Jewfish are also being caught around Middle Island and the wreck in Corlette Bay, as well as the Co-op Breakwall.
Whiting measuring up to 42 centimetres are being caught in Swansea Channel on beach and blood worms, and there has been several catches of flathead around the islands and the Dropover in the Lake.
Bream are being caught at Murray’s Beach and Nords Wharf, and there has been good catches of tailor around the Lake.
