The West Maitland Red Dogs missed a chance for a top-five spot while the Thornton Beresfield Bears consolidated their lead position in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby League D-grade competition.
The seventh-placed Red Dogs were downed 52-16 by the fourth-placed Williamtown Jets at Coronation Oval on Saturday while a 74-6 thrashing of Swansea by the Bears at Lindsay Park on Saturday kept the home team in first place.
Also in D-grade the Clarence Town Cobras were beaten 40-16 by Carrington after the scores were locked at 12-all at half-time.
In C-grade it was the Hinton Hornets edging out the Woodberry Warriors in a thriller at Hinton Park on Saturday.
Both teams scored five tries each, but the Hornets prevailed 26-24 in the round 14 encounter.
Justin Field, Will Frost, Nathan Bradbury, Bradley Francis and Josh Frost crossed for the hosts, while for the visitors Ben Rose scored two and Kevin Picton, Brody Asquith and Tainui Teawhitu also put their name on the sheet.
Will Frost kicked three goals to Matt Martin’s two.
Also in C-grade the Abermain Hawks remain unbeaten in four outings after a 32-20 win against Stroud at Stroud Showground on Saturday.
Mick Akers and Mark Walters both scored twice for the Hawks while Raiders lock Jake Kerr produced a hat-trick of tries.
The Dungog Warriors breezed past Newcastle University 30-4 at Bennett Park on Saturday.
In B-grade centre Andrew Roberts found the try line on three occasions for Paterson River as they comfortably accounted for Raymond Terrace 44-10 at Paterson Showground on Saturday.
Grant Jackson, Michael Bellamy, Matthew Roberts, Darren Smith and Brad Smith also scored tries for the home team, while Robert Fletcher and Jarrod Marks helped the Magpies get off the mark.
Jackson kicked six goals for a personal points tally of 16 for the day.
And in A-grade the East Maitland Griffins had the bye.
