While the Wallabies are wrapping up their European tour the Australian domestic rugby union season has been finished for quite some time.
However, this Maitland Blacks trio are committed to keep the ball rolling over the summer months.
Isaac Enright, Jock Barry and Pat Batey have been selected in the Hunter under 17s squad for the inaugural Junior Gold Cup being rolled out by the Australian Rugby Union.
The JGC is a nation-wide competition targeted at long-term development in the under-17 and under-15 age groups.
There are 24 teams from across the country in each division, including four from Sydney and Brisbane and one each from ACT, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.
Other areas of Queensland are then split into six zones, while NSW has been divided into Hunter, Central Coast, Northern Inland, North Coast, Illawarra and Western.
Fixtures will be played in conferences in February and March but in the meantime Enright, Barry and Batey will train three-times a week with the Hunter squad, including both gym and on-field sessions in Newcastle.
“It is good off-season training and a good way to keep your skills up for next season,” Enright said.
“And it is a chance to play against some of the best players in Australia for our age group.”
The 16-year-olds all play in the same Blacks junior team.
Lorn-based Enright is a centre, Barry of Hilldale is a hooker while Bolwarra Height’s Batey is a fly-half.
