Maitland City Council approved plans to put the skate park on a public reserve at Lawes Street, opposite the tennis courts.
The lack of a skating facility in East Maitland and Green Hills was identified as part of a council youth planning strategy in 2012.
Council held community consultation between April 10 and May 23 this year, which included an on-site meeting between staff and about 20 residents from the area.
But the plan to build the skate park opposite the tennis court caused concern for some residents of nearby Page Street, who feared that it would attract vandalism.
Council community and recreation services manager Lynn Morton said the Lawes Street reserve met the design guidelines for the skate park.
