Council charged ratepayers to cover its carbon tax-related costs, but the tax was repealed last week.
A late report tabled at last night’s council meeting noted that the annual domestic waste charge would drop $29 to $364.90 from 2014-15.
General manager David Evans said the change of fees legally had to go on public exhibition for 28 days before it was introduced.
He said anyone who paid their latest rates before the 28-day period was finished would have their accounts credited for the extra money they paid once the fees changed.
Extra money collected at the Mount Vincent Waste Management Centre gate, however, could not be returned but would be put towards the future development of the waste transfer station.
