Newcastle City Council announced the private three-year leasing of the course to a company called Golf North on Tuesday.
“I have concerns about this and how it will impact on local clubs and players in the area,” Cr Dunn said.
“Council has not provided any information on what this impact might be and we don’t know anything about the operator’s intentions.
“The golf course at present is good for older players in a relaxed atmosphere. But a private operator might change this and make it a more up-market course.
“It might become an ‘unfriendly’ course for older players.”
Asked about council’s plans, a Newcastle Council spokeswoman said: “The objectives of the Golf Course Management Plan are to provide fair and reasonable access to sporting facilities for the community and to maximise use of Council’s capital infrastructure and facilities.
“The plan also calls for Beresfield Golf Course to remain a public course.”
