The Pickers will look to bounce back from their horror loss to Port Stephens when they host the Seagulls at the Maitland Sportsground on Saturday.
Maitland were upset 16-10 at the Tomaree Sportsground last weekend, the second time the lowly Sharks have beaten the Pickers this season.
Port Stephens, who are last on the Newcastle Rugby League table after 14 rounds, have only won two games in 2014, both against the Pickers.
The loss saw Maitland slip to fifth place on 16 points with coalfields rivals Cessnock (14) needing to chase them down for a spot in the finals.
Maitland has made seven changes to the team beaten by Port Stephens.
Terrence Seu Seu has moved from five-eighth to hooker, with incumbent rake Jarrod Smith named in reserve grade.
Ellis has switched from prop to lock with Billy Towers moving to five-eighth.
Giant prop Peter Rata comes off the bench to start in the front row while Howie Grant is promoted to the second row.
Pat Robards comes into the squad having been named on the bench.
Maitland need to arrest a disappointing run of form having not won back to back games since May and have won only two of their last six games.
Maitland will be looking for a repeat performance to when they played Lakes in round six as they thrashed the Seagulls 46-14 at Cahill Oval.
Kick off is at 3pm.
In other Newcastle Rugby League games this weekend, Cessnock host South Newcastle on Saturday while Central Newcastle is on the road for their clash with Macquarie.
Top of the table Western Suburbs have the bye.
