Paterson MP Bob Baldwin said the group had won the grant as part of the federal government’s Saluting Their Service program.
“I congratulate the Maitland Vietnam Veterans and Services Legion on its efforts to recognise the invaluable contribution of Australian servicemen and women past and present, and ensure the next generation appreciates their service and sacrifice,“ he said.
The Maitland legion is one of 68 groups that received a share of the latest round funding.
More than $178,000 has been given to community and ex-service organisations across Australia under the program.
Saluting Their Service grants help Australians from all walks of life contribute to the commemoration of those who have served and continue to serve the nation.
The grants assist community and ex-service organisations across a range of activities including restoring wartime memorabilia, establishing new commemorative plaques and upgrading local rolls of honour.
