Aaron Smith live on Cessnock Road near the railway bridge that separates Kurri Kurri and Weston.
A 76-year-old motorcycle rider was killed near that spot last month when his bike and a van crashed.
“My partner and I have been living in our house on Cessnock Road since November last year and I have lost count of the number of cars that have gone off the road here,” Mr Smith said yesterday.
“I have contacted Cessnock City Council four times and asked if they might put up a safety barrier along the centre of the road, which could prevent cars swerving to the opposite side.
“Maybe this part of Cessnock Road should even be closed off.
“It is even worse when it rains and we hear car tyres squealing all the time.
“I believe it is extremely dangerous with passing vehicles that nearly wipe out our car, our house or others nearby.
“Our neighbours here have young children and I am really scared of what might happen one day.
“We have a very large front room in our house, but we dare not sleep there or go there very often for fear that a car might come crashing through.”
Cessnock City Council spokeswoman said: “Council is aware improvements can be made to that area of road and we are investigating what those improvements could be.”
She said council needed to discuss the situation with the Roads and Maritime Services as the state government was also responsible for some main roads in the area.
