The 17-year-old from Thornton will don the green and gold uniform of his country and represent the Australian Schoolboys rugby league team on the international sporting stage.
The talented playmaker will travel to the UK next week for a six-week tour, including two Tests against the English, and said running out to play for his country would be a dream come true.
“Two years ago I was lucky enough to make the [Australian] under 15s merit side, but we didn’t actually get to play any games,” Lamb said.
“This time we actually get to run out and play, so it will be a very satisfying to wear the green and gold.
“It will not only be a chance to represent your country, but all your family and friends, on the other side of the world.
“It will be everything I have been working hard for finally coming together.”
Lamb was named in the Australian Schoolboys squad two years ago after leading the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges to an under-15 national title in Darwin.
Fast forward to 2014 and he repeated the dose in opens.
The student at All Saints College, St Mary’s Campus, Maitland, now finds himself on the verge of an overseas adventure.
“It was only two years ago I was playing Harold Matthews for Newcastle,” he said.
“It has all happened pretty quick and I’ve never been on a plane more than eight hours.”
Lamb is training with the Newcastle Knights under-20 squad on the third-year of a three-year contract.
He said looking at the previous Australian Schoolboys representatives, including Maitland’s Greg Bird and Knights skipper Jarrod Mullen, gave him confidence in the future.
“Looking at some of the names that have been in the Australian Schoolboys, there are heaps who have gone on to make it in first grade,” he said.
“Even more recently, 12 of the starting 13 from two years ago played first grade this year and last year Sione [Mata’utai] was part of it.
Lamb’s last game was the Maitland Pickers under-18 grand final loss at Newcastle No.1 Sportsground in September after playing semis for the Knights NYC squad in Sydney the night before.
He joins the squad on Sunday at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra for a training camp before flying out next Friday.
