It’s a scenario that many of us have probably encountered on a long-drive to a holiday destination, or at home stuck behind a slow motorist.
According to police it is a scenario which poses one of their biggest problems during the summer holidays.
Tired drivers from Sydney, and further afield, on the end of a long stretch of driving and in unfamiliar surrounds are a danger on our roads.
But the bottom line is that Hunter motorists do not have to contribute further to the danger by getting frustrated or angry and taking unnecessary risks on the road.
There is also an onus on travellers to ensure they are at their most alert at all times on the road.
Taking breaks every two hours is paramount. If you are lost, pull over when it’s safe and find your bearings before proceeding.
Fatigue is one of the big three killers on our roads and can only be avoided by rest.
Drink driving, followed by speed are the biggest killers.
With a police warning of the increased risk during holiday periods you would really be a bloody idiot to even remotely consider either.
Speed cuts your ability to stop in time and increases the potential for fatal impact in a crash.
Drink-driving just simply makes you a danger to yourself and others on the road.
Some courtesy, consideration and care will go a long way to ensuring the Hunter is fatality free this summer.
If you are caught behind a slow driver, remember a funeral procession goes a lot slower.
