The Rotary club of East Maitland was concerned about the young boy’s safety since Cyclone Pam devastated the island nation more than a week ago.
The resort Charlie was living on was flattened and only a few huts were left standing, his mentor, Brian Coffey told the Mercury late yesterday.
Mr Coffey received news of Charlie’s survival about 6.15pm on Sunday.
“A few huts are still standing, but there are no trees and the place has been devastated,” Mr Coffey said.
“We don’t know how Charlie survived unhurt, but we’ve been sent a picture of him and he seems smiling and happy.”
“We are all very happy to hear the news, but details of his survival are still sketchy.”
