The breakfast, on Wednesday, will be a chance for students from Maitland schools to learn about the role that council plays in the community.
The Mayor of Maitland, Cr Peter Blackmore, said it was important to engage young people and nurture their interest and curiosity about local issues.
He said the students could one day become the leaders of the Maitland community.
“This event is a fantastic chance for local students to see and hear how council works,” Cr Blackmore said. “Over breakfast we talk about what it means to be a leader, as well as some of the positive career opportunities council offers.”
Local Government Week kicked off on Monday and will finish on Sunday, August 9.
This year’s theme, Active All Areas, reflects the need for councils to engage with different age groups, cultural groups and racial groups within the community.
“Our city continues to grow and we welcome a number of new residents each day from many different backgrounds and cultures,” Cr Blackmore said.
“We are a proud community and it’s important that we all share and embrace what’s great about Maitland.”
