The money, from the state government’s Clean Up Prevention grant pool, is part of $300,000 that will be distributed to councils and other organisations across the Hunter.
It will be used for initiatives to combat illegal dumping including education campaigns, surveillance, enforcement and identifying hot spots for the offence.
“Illegal dumping affects a number of environmentally sensitive areas of the Hunter,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said.
“I am pleased that the NSW Liberal-National government has provided these grants to help tackle illegal dumping.
“I encourage local councils and other community groups across the Hunter to continue to apply for these grants which are available under the NSW government’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.”
Maitland City Council has been allocated $19,465, Port Stephens Council will receive $132,000 and Lake Macquarie City Council will get $77,200.
The Lower Hunter branch of National Parks and Wildlife Service has been allocated $81,000.
