Ryan McFarlane began work as general manager of The Good Guys store at East Maitland last week and said he wanted to make sure the business continued to have a focus on engaging with the community.
He came to the role after 20 years of managing supermarkets and fast food outlets and has spent the past few weeks learning the ropes of his new job.
“It’s a great team, there’s a great culture,” he said.
“I really love the part about doing good things with the community. I think it’s driven me towards The Good Guys.”
Mr McFarlane grew up in Metford and Thornton. He left the area and worked his way up the retail ladder to become a manager.
He has been back in the Maitland area for five years.
He and his family live in Aberglasslyn.
Mr McFarlane said the new job was about a lifestyle change so he could work in a retail business where he would have a chance to spend more time with customers.
“For me personally, because I grew up in the community, I know the area very well and it’s something that is dear to my heart,” he said.
“I have a fantastic team here at the Maitland store and am excited to work with such an enthusiastic and extremely motivated bunch of people.
“I can’t wait to get to know more of the local faces and I encourage everyone to come in and say hello to me and the team.”
