Bulldogs coach Phil Williams described Saturday’s trial game as scrappy and error-ridden, but he was pleased with the effort in the final 20 minutes.
“We had seven debutants but even then there’s no excuse for fundamental errors which shouldn’t happen at any level,” he said.
“We came good at the end but in stages we were poor. Our ball control was poor and our field position was poor.
“It’s a good one to get under the belt. There’s plenty we can learn from it.”
Williams said that second-rower Jake Ball was strong throughout the game and his pick as the Bulldogs’ best.
He said Brock Gilmore worked hard, Ryan Walker scored a good try and Terence Seu Seu showed his organisational skills when he came on in the second half.
