Matt Southon on guitar and vocals, Matt Elliott on drums and washboard and Declan Kenrick on harp crank through blues songs with energy, flair and honesty.
It’s the a swirling, wholly Australian sound with whiskey-worn vocals and rapid fire harmonica pulled along for the ride.
It won’t be their first rodeo, Two Rivers have played the Junkyard and Gumball before.
Southon’s barking vocals reveal their depth in the slower songs. Hats at Home, a soulful and ornate contemplation of distance, lets the gritty voice falter and scratch beautifully. It sounds how well-worn timber feels.
Fans of Seasick Steve would find a lot to love about the lip-curling, schooner-lifting groove Two River pumps out. In the words of the band; it’s fun, mate. Fun.
