PREVIOUS: IN a historic day for the Black Diamond AFL, the newly-named Singleton Roosterettes faced neighbouring Maitland on Saturday in their first outing of the women’s competition at Rose Point Park, Singleton.
Club president Kevin Pitcher said it was a special moment for the team; and Singleton AFL.
“It’s great to see the girls running onto the field,” he said.
“Coach Corey Oldham has done a terrific job.
“The women have been training hard – and we wish them all the best.
“It’s fantastic that a good-sized crowd is here to support them.
“Today is also a day for remembrance as we play for the Brian Childs Memorial Trophy.
“It’s been 11 months since Brian’s tragic death.
“And, while it doesn’t get any easier, the occasion gives the club and players the opportunity to remember Brian for the wonderful person he was.”
