The Rebels defeated East Coast Dolphins 40-22 and face Greater Northern Tigers at Cessnock this week.
Under-18 coach Steve Kidd said victory would earn his team a semi-final spot avoiding the powerful Western Division.
Kidd said players’ player last week was Thornton’s Gary Anderson.
The under-16 Rebels lost 26-34 to the Dolphins last week and know that anything less that a victory will see them eliminated.
“Once again we struggled with our ball control and in hot conditions the extra defense took its toll,” under-16 coach Andrew Fawcett said.
“With a growing injury toll we will go into this week with our backs against the wall. The boys’ character will certainly be tested,”
“Our belief in one and another has us steeled for the contest and the return of centre Ali Taufaao will certainly boost our cause.”
