Graeme Mudd has been to World Cup events before but this weekend in Cairns he kick starts a year-long campaign on the international mountain bike circuit.

The 23-year-old from Woodberry will contest the sole southern hemisphere leg before heading overseas for the remaining rounds.
“It’s a little bit different this time,” he said fresh from successfully defending his national series crown. “Before I would only have a little window to do one or two events, so it would be much more rushed. Now I can build into it and if I don’t get a result I won’t be as stressed because I have more time.”
The Hunter Mountain Bike Association rider has set his sights on making the top 30 across visits to Germany, France, Scotland, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, the US and Andorra. His best finish previously was 29th in Cairns two years ago.
Qualifiers were Friday, heats take place Saturday and finals follow Sunday.
