Seu Seu was clearly best on ground creating headaches in attack and not taking a backward step in answering everything the Pickers could throw at the Bulldogs.
He benefitted from a strong platform laid by Michael Steel and Peter Cronin in the forwards.
Lock Mitch Cullen and back-row pairing Ben Wyborn and Brady Hammond also made good yards.
The game threatened to spill over into a brawl several times, but calm was restored.
However, Pickers fullback Steve Waetford and back-row Tylar Carter were both sin-binned for 10 minutes.
Bulldogs coach Phil Williams said he was pleased with how his team responded on the track and field after last week’s disappointing loss to South Newcastle.
“We had a 70 per cent completion rate in the first half, which showed the lessons from last week were learned,” he said.
Both teams were guilty of dropped ball in attack, but the Bulldogs were better able to exploit Maitland’s mistakes.
Pickers coach Trevor Ott said the Pickers lacked the intensity they displayed against Lakes United last week.
Ott said they were guilty of too many errors and silly penalties.
“We had one try scored againts us when we were down to 12 men. But in a four-try to five game that would have been the difference if our goal kicking had have been better,” he said.
“After a great start with a try in the first couple of minutes, we conceded a try against the run of play.
“Then we didn’t find touch from a penalty kick and they scored a try from the resulting set.
“We were playing catch-up football after that and we just couldn’t get ourselves back fully into the game.”
