The Bears fought out a 0-0 draw with Broadmeadow Magic thanks to a penalty save by Ben Kelly.
“It was a great save by Benny but I don’t think it should ever have been a penalty,” Bears veteran Nathan Morris said.
“It was just a contest and the bigger man won out because of his strength.
“I am disappointed we didn’t get the three points as we certainly had the better of possession and chances in the first half.
“It evened out possession wise in the second half, but we again had better chances.
“We worked out butts off and pressed hard for long periods. We had the better of them for most of the game apart from about 10 minutes at the end.”
The Bears under 22s lost 5-1 after leading 1-0, and the under 19s had a 1-0 win.
The score was different, but the result and the level of frustration the same for the Magpies who had a 1-all draw with Valentine.
The Magpies fell a goal behind in the shadows of half-time after dominating possession and scoring chances.
“It was their first real chance on goal and they scored. We had three or four good chances in the first half but couldn’t beat the keeper,” Magpies assistant coach Reece Thompson said.
“Overall we didn’t play really well, but I though we did enough to earn the three points.”
Matt Thompson managed to get the Magpies back on even terms in the second half slotting home a free-kick from 25 metres out.
The Magpies under 22 lost 0-3 and the under 19s lost 1-2.
