In what proved to be a historic 30-lap feature race, Eveleigh, who had qualified second after two heat-race victories earlier in the night, outpaced veteran racer and pole-sitter Shane Carlson from the start.
Despite several stoppages Eveleigh managed to maintain his focus, preserving his lead to cross the line in first, seizing the chequered flag and becoming the youngest ever winner of the coveted Australian title at the age of just 18.
“It’s an incredible feeling to come away with the Australian title win,” Eveleigh said.
“I was aiming for a top-five finish so to exceed that is such a great achievement and something I’m over the moon with, especially considering the calibre of the drivers in the field.”
No stranger to racing, Eveleigh descends from a rich speedway background and his Australian title win is a significant achievement not only for him, but for his entire family.
Eveleigh’s uncle, Late Model driver David Robertson and grandfather, former Super Sedan driver Stu Robertson, have each scored third-place finishes in past Australian titles.
A former go karter and Junior Sedan racer, Eveleigh’s title came off the back of his victory at the Charlie McGarva Memorial and a fourth in the Greta Smith Memorial.
It was his third meeting aboard his new VZ Holden Commodore, which had been a six-month building venture with his family
While Eveleigh’s uncle, David, built his engine, the car was built by Eveleigh himself with the support of his grandad, Stu.
“A huge thank you must go out to my family, in particular my uncle and granddad, who have both put in a massive effort to get the car ready – it has been quick from the start,” Eveleigh said.
“This is the first Australian title win for the family, so I’m really proud to have been able to come away with the win and create some history in the process.”
