It is a diverse group of people and it is driven by a common goal of getting more business for Maitland. The chamber is seven elected members that are the drivers of the direction of the chamber. The team is given the responsibility to create advocacy platforms to assist in the economic growth.
The team also creates the program of guest speakers that educate and entertain at our meetings. This team doesn’t get any financial remuneration for sitting as an executive member. But we are passionate about our community and making Maitland a better place.
For readers of the Mercury you would have seen a distinct increase in the chamber using our voice for local and national issues that may be deemed outside of the economics of business. We are all rolling up our sleeves and giving blood in the hope we can inspire others to donate. Yes, it can be argued that it is not a business issue but I am sure if you ask the Kim Munroe from Aussie Maitland she will tell you it has been a wonderful team bonding experience. The chamber is also about to partner with the Cancer Council on a national first. The Maitland Chamber is one of the first chambers to pilot a program that will lead to policy development and education for business on how to deal with one of your employees dealing with cancer. The chamber has also facilitated a meeting with local sporting teams to develop a program to assist with raising awareness around white ribbon day and the prevention of domestic violence. This program will leverage of and showcase the phenomenal work conducted by local provider Carrie’s Place.
Making a difference to our community and being better citizens is the business of all business and I am proud to lead our team of inspirational leaders. In the past, the hip, tech savvy people at the chamber created the hashtag #morethannetworking – we are creating a chamber that is much more than sharing breakfast and referrals. So come along to one of our events and become a part of a true chamber community.
