Council is focusing on place activation, which involves temporary art, activities or other ways to encourage people to engage with the public space.
An interactive map has been launched on the Maitland Your Say website for people to lodge their creative ideas. Council has also been appearing in places like Hunter Mall with a giant map of the region for people to write their ideas on the locations they think would best suit them.
“Place activation is about creating vibrant and connected communities, and for activations to be a success we rely on the involvement of a diverse mix of community members,” city and visitor economy coordinator Martin Payne said. “Activations, like the mapping exercise, are helping us understand how stories, memories and experiences help to create the places that are important to our community, and how these places can be transformed into unique and vibrant local spaces.”
