Magpies assistant coach Reece Thompson said the Magpies had the best of the game, but silly errors in the first half contributed to both Adamstown’s goals.
“They scored off a penalty and a free-kick. It was silly stuff on our behalf and in the second-half we addressed that,” Thompson said.
“We didn’t need to change anything drastically, we just needed to tighten up on the errors.
“Liam Thornton and Jye McKellar were our best in a good performance across the park.”
Ryan Clarke continued a rich vein of form to score a double and Matt Thompson again found his way on to the score sheet.
Thornton scored a headed goal and narrowly missed a stunning second after beating four players on his way to having a shot.
The Weston Bears had a 2-all draw with Valentine, with Nathan Morris scoring from a penalty in the first half and Patrick Wand scoring in the second from a free kick to even the scores.
The Bears had led 1-0 at half-time, but Valentine scored just after the break and added a second 10 minutes later.
“We had five players out through injury or suspension, I was very proud of the effort,” Bears coach Trevor Morris said.
“We had two shots hit the post and had another three or four chances saved on the line with scrambling defence and a couple of great saves by their keeper.”
