The day doubled as a tribute to former player Harry Hofman, who died suddenly in October 2014, from a ruptured spleen, the result of Epstein Barr Virus, and a fundraiser for the Hunter Breast Cancer Federation.
“There were a lot of old faces and new faces in the crowd,” Bears vice-president Jordan Eckford said.
“Our past players and the community in general really embraced the day. We had our juniors from under-6 through to under-17 play and most of them and their families stuck around for the whole day.
“The great thing was we were able to raise a lot of money for the Hunter Breast Cancer Federation.
“The foundation was wonderful to work with and gave us so much support right up to the day.
“We are certainly aiming to make this an annual fundraising day and special event for the club.”
On the field the Hexham Jets proved too strong for the Bears winning 50-26.
