Sydney Swans co-captain Jarrod McVeigh predicted Heeney, 20, would be back in the Swans' midfield at some point in the future.
"That's where he's played his whole junior career and he's had a few stints in there over the last couple of weeks to get around the ball a bit more," McVeigh said.
"But definitely he would play midfield, I would say towards the end of his career. The partnership with him and Budd [Lance Franklin] up there, he provides that X-factor and he's good overhead for his size. To kick four on the weekend, it was really good for his confidence, so that break [in the reserves] will do him wonders."
Meanwhile, Swans ruckman Kurt Tippett is on track for a round 22 return in the penultimate game of the regular season against North Melbourne.
