Like the rest of the TTW team, Nadine is excited about the opportunity to upskill the Hunter’s youth through this service; to help them find meaningful employment and gain further education.
- What are some misconceptions potential employers might have about using this service?
Mai-Wel has historically provided employment support services and programs to people with a disability. With TTW, Mai-Wel is embracing all youth who are in the Maitland, Cessnock or Kurri Kurri area aged between 15-21 years, not working or studying.
- What are the benefits employers will experience when using TTW?
Our team will work closely with employers to understand their needs and to explore work experience and employment opportunities. The team will provide a post-placement support service to ensure the expectations of both the employer and young person are understood and met.
- What sort of challenges do you think employers might face in employing youth through TTW?
For many youth, this may actually be their first ever paid job. There may be a learning curve as to what an employer expects. On the positive side, the opportunity for these young people to have responsibility, to earn an income can be life changing and rewarding.
- What are some of the benefits of employing a young person?
Young people are trainable, teachable and ready to learn! They demonstrate enthusiasm, willingness and flexibility and are genuinely keen to start earning an income whilst working towards a level of financial independence. They want to learn on-the-job skills while completing a trade or apprenticeship qualification.
- What employers are eligible for this service?
There is no set criteria for employers. This service is open and accessible to all businesses, large and small, in and around the Hunter LGA including, Port Stephens, Newcastle, Cessnock, Singleton and Maitland.
- How much does the service cost?
TTW is free. It is funded by the Australian Government and delivered by The Mai-Wel Group.
