Following a hugely successful three month solo tour of France, Spain and Scandinavia in 2015, Brodie has been snaking his way up the East Coast playing material from his new EP Booze to Blame with James Thomson and the Strange Pilgrims.
Maitland, the Grand Junction specifically, holds a special place in Brodie’s history – he first teamed up with the Pilgrims at the pub.
“Beers was spilt, jokes were shared, songs were sung, punches were thrown into the air and after a solid twelve hours of foolishness, and a bonding over tales of Maitland’s very own famed resident boxer Les Darcy, an easy decision was made - let’s join forces and play music together,” he said online.
In fact, Les Darcy stands on the tour’s poster – his formidable fists at the ready. Not a bad way to see a man who has been an enduring songwriting presence in Australian music for decades.
And while Brodie just got back from Europe, the Maitland show will be his second last show before he and his band, the Grieving Widows, bid Australia farewell for the sunny shores of Spain and France.
Dan Brodie will play at Newcastle’s Stag and Hunter on Saturday night before the Sunday Grandy gig.
