The Maitland Blacks under-12 team started the Back to Blacks Day on a winning note with a 41-7 win against Merewether Carlton, their opponent in next week’s elimination final.

The teams has played together over the past three years and is excited and determined to go all the way in 2016.
Their coach Peter Hodgson said the boys were runners up two years ago and bowed out early in the finals last year after finishing minor premiers.
“I think they have decided together that winning a grand finals is something they want to do,” he said.
“Whatever the end result, the club is very proud of the boys. They are really respectful group on and off the field.
“They will be a big part of the club’s future at senior level.”
