The young Saints, who are a mixed team of boys and girls, went through the season undefeated and withstood a brave challenge from the Blues in the big game to run out 4.7-31 to 3.6-24 winners.
Maitland’s best in the grand final were Zack Stewart, Rahn Sonneveld, Xavier Russell, Jarrod Inglis and Emmy Latter.
Sonneveld led the scoring with two goals, with Liam Clowes and Stewart kicking one each.
The combined Singleton-Maitland youth women’s team also had a great season making the grand final AFL Hunter Coast Newcastle Juniors competition on Sunday.
The combo, unfortunately, were unable to match a strong Cardiff team in the final losing 9.6-60 to 3.0-18.
Australian rules continues to grow in the Maitland region with the Saints running AusKick programs and teams from under-9 through to under-17 for boys and girls in the Hunter Junior AFL competition.
