About 150 young rugby enthusiasts hung on every word from the NSW Waratahs players who attended the rugby clinic at Marcellin Park in Maitland on Wednesday.
Waratah Bryce Hegarty said the grassroots clinics across the state had been a welcome break over the past eight months as he recovered from an ACL knee reconstruction.
“It’s fantastic when we can get out to the bush, the kids are just so enthusiastic. It’s great fun for us as well,” he said.
Hegarty was joined at the clinic by Angus Ta’avao, Harry Jones, Senio Toleafoa, Matt Lucas, Hugh Roach and Waratahs coaching and development staff.
Young players from as far afield as Singleton and Newcastle made their way to Marcellin Park for the clinic.
The clinic is part of an exciting program being run by NSW Rugby in the Hunter, with Marcellin Park to also host a full-day Sevens Clinic with NSW players on September 29 during the school holidays.
The camp program certified by NSW Sevens head coaches Francis Cullimore and Nathan McMahon and includes an introduction to the ARU's newest form of Rugby - VIVA7s.
Men’s sevens coach Cullimore said the camps provided a really good base of practical rugby sevens skills and enable them to grasp the key differences between the two forms of the game.
Booking details for the camp can be found on the Maitland Junior Rugby Facebook page or NSW Rugby’s website at http://www.nswrugby.com.au/
